BEARDS for BEARS is a beard growing charity event held held April and October each year that raises funds and awareness to help stop the heart-breaking cruelty and torture being afflicted on bears around the world.
BEARDS for BEARS is a non-profit fund raiser, supporting bear saving organisations and projects around the world.
All information including posters and fund raising forms will be emailed to you upon registration for this hairy worthy cause.
It's time to speak up for bears... and have some serious hairy fun doing it! - As animals cannot speak up for themselves, it is up to humans to give them a voice, speak up on their behalf and help end their abuse NOW!

Extremely endangered, it is estimated that less than 1,000 Giant Pandas remain in very fragmented and isolated habitat islands. The Giant Panda is listed as an Appendix I species in CITES to afford maximum protection. Over the past twenty years Giant Panda conservation has received considerable international support and many captive breeding programs have been initiated worldwide. Despite these efforts, the population continues to decline.
The main threat to the Giant Panda in the wild is habitat loss and poaching of illegal wildlife.
Giant Pandas do not breed well in captivity. There are currently 110-120 Giant Pandas in captivity, the majority of which are in China, although two North American zoos, San Diego and the National Zoo in Washington have breeding pairs.

The Arctic's climate is changing, with a dramatic warming trend that is affecting polar bears. Last summer, the normal ice coverage in the Arctic declined by almost 50% - a loss equal to the size of Alaska and Texas combined. This was followed by a winter melt-off in the permanent pack ice of the Beaufort Sea, leaving expanses of water so wide that ice couldn't be seen on either side. The break-up of the thick slabs of ice clearly rattled climate experts, who did not expect the winter sea ice to diminish for several decades.
Scientists estimate that Arctic summers could possibly be ice-free in 10 years. The loss of Arctic sea ice threatens the survival of polar bears. Sea ice is important to the bears because they use it as a platform from which to hunt seals, as well as for breeding and denning. Without ice, polar bears are unable to reach their prey.
Scientists now know, with 95% certainty, that greenhouse gases are causing the planet's climate to warm and the Arctic has never undergone such a rapid change.
Polar bears now need to swim farther to reach the sea ice. Some of them drown while attempting to make long, difficult swims so that they can hunt seals, leaving cubs to fend for themselves at the risk of starving to death and worse.. victims of cannibalism by starving adult males, which sadly is on a rapid increase as eyewitness reports is showing...
November 27, 2009: Four incidents of adult male polar bears killing cubs for food have been reported to Manitoba Conservation in recent weeks, a grim reminder of the threat to polar bears posed by climate change and their shrinking Arctic sea ice habitat.
"The last time we observed a male eating a cub in this area was 10 years ago and I recall, in total, only three instances in that area in the past 24 years," says John Gunter, General Manager of Frontiers North's Tundra Buggy Adventure.
The loss of sea ice has seen Polar Bear population's numbers plunge. Scientists believe that polar bears will disappear by the middle of the century from the southern part of their range, including Alaska and Canada's Hudson Bay. They are also likely to disappear from the Polar Basin. Smaller groups are predicted to survive along the coast of Canada's Arctic islands and parts of the coast of northern Greenland.
Hope remains for the bears, however, if we take rapid action. Although greatly reducing carbon emissions would not have an immediate effect, we can save the polar bear as a species. If we take action and reverse climate change, the small group of polar bears that survive will be able to repopulate their original range when the sea ice returns.

Asiatic Black Bears, also known as: Himalayan Black Bear, Tibetan Black Bear & Moon Bear
China is being blamed for a serious fall in the number of Asiatic black bears in Russia. There are now only 1,500 left in the wild.
China hunts the bears for their paws and gall bladders to serve the Chinese demand of their diners.

These poor bears are also trapped and sold to bear bile farms throughout Asia, and for the barbaric bear 'baiting' entertainment arenas in Pakistan.

Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) need to stop using bear pelts to make headpieces for the five guard's regiments and to have the hats fashioned from luxurious faux fur instead.
Bears are cruelly killed for their hides; they are either shot during hunts or ensnared, possibly for days, in painful traps. During hunts, as many as one bear in seven is not killed immediately after being shot, and some escape wounded, possibly dying later from blood loss or starvation. In some Canadian provinces, there are no restrictions on the shooting of mothers who have nursing cubs, leading to the slaughter of entire families during hunts.
For nearly two centuries, the MoD has waged a war on black bears while doing nothing to further the search for synthetic materials. In fact, when it was presented with high-tech synthetic materials by animal welfare organization PETA - sourced from leading faux-fur manufacturers around the world and made to the MoD's own specifications - the MoD was quick to make negative comments about the faux fur, saying that it "lacks life" and "doesn't bounce back".
Instead of financially supporting the shameful slaughter of black bears, Great Britain should set a compassionate example by switching to a humane and progressive alternative and committing to stopping the killing.
Please write a polite letter requesting a reply and urging Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Secretary of State for Defence Bob Ainsworth, MP, to immediately stop supporting the killing of bears while they work on replacing the real fur used in the guards' hats with cruelty-free faux fur:
